2012 Mock Draft

APRIL  16TH  MOCK  DRAFT
PICK TEAM PLAYER POS. SCHOOL COMMENTS
1 Indianapolis Colts: Andrew Luck*, QB, Stanford. As we get closer to the Draft it has become clearer that the Colts are going to select Luck.  NFL sources tell us there is no debate in their building about which quarterback to select.
2 Washington Redskins (From St. Louis): Robert Griffin III*, QB, Baylor. Coach Shanahan made the bold move to trade up to assure he would be able to draft Robert Griffin III to run his offense.
3 Minnesota Vikings: Matt Kalil*, LT, USC. The Vikings must do a better job of protecting Christian Ponder if he is going to develop, so they select Matt Kalil to protect Ponder’s blindeside.
4 Cleveland Browns: Ryan Tannehill, QB, Texas A&M. The Browns clearly want to upgrade from Colt McCoy and Tannehill has the talent to be an elite quarterback.
5 Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Trent Richardson*, RB, Alabama. Coach Schiano believes in a physical rushing attack and Richardson is the powerful and aggressive runner to carry the Buccaneers’ offense.
6 St. Louis Rams (From Washington): Justin Blackmon*, WR, Oklahoma State. The Rams first choice is Trent Richardson, but with him gone they make the move to upgrade at receiver.
7 Jacksonville Jaguars: Morris Claiborne*, CB, LSU. While a receiver is expected here, sources tell us the Jaguars want to upgrade their defense and Claiborne would be their best cornerback as a rookie.
8 Miami Dolphins: Michael Floyd, WR, Notre Dame. With Tannehill off the board, the Dolphins make the move to add Floyd who gives them a number one receiver to replace Brandon Marshall.
9 Carolina Panthers: Fletcher Cox*, DT, Mississippi State. Carolina needs to upgrade its defense and Cox is the best interior play maker in the Draft.
10 Buffalo Bills: Cordy Glenn, OT, Georgia. Buffalo’s offensive tackles were inconsistent in 2011, so it makes the move to draft Cordy Glenn who should start at left tackle and solidify that position.
11 Kansas City Chiefs: David DeCastro*, OG, Stanford. Every source we speak to tells us that the Chiefs are desperate to land DeCastro to upgrade their interior offensive line.
12 Seattle Seahawks: Quinton Coples, DE, North Carolina. Seattle wants to improve its pass rush and Coples fits the mold of the big, strong defensive end that fits its scheme.
13 Arizona Cardinals: Melvin Ingram, OLB, South Carolina. Arizona’s outside pass rush has struggled in recent seasons, so it makes the move to draft Ingram who fits perfectly as an outside linebacker is its 34 defense.
14 Dallas Cowboys: Michael Brockers*, DE, LSU. Brockers is a great fit as a strong-side defensive end in the Cowboys defensive scheme and would upgrade their defense immediately.
15 Philadelphia Eagles: Dontari Poe*, DT, Memphis. The Eagles want to get more inside pressure on quarterbacks and Coe has the raw physical talent to be a disruptive interior force.
16 New York Jets: Whitney Mercilus*, OLB, Illinois. The Jets’ outside pass rush was inconsistent in 2011 and drafting Mercilus would upgrade their ability to consistently pressure the quarterback.
17 Cincinnati Bengals (From Oakland); Reuben Randle*, WR, LSU. A.J. Green gave the Bengals an elite receiver for Andy Dalton and adding Randle would make their passing attack one of the most dangerous in the AFC.
18 San Diego Chargers: Nick Perry*, DE, USC. The Chargers pass rush has struggled greatly in recent seasons and Perry would be an excellent fit opposite Shaun Phillips.
19 Chicago Bears: Coby Fleener*, TE, Stanford. The Bears added an impact receiver in Brandon Marshall and now get the big play tight end that has been missing since they had Greg Olsen.
20 Tennessee Titans: Janoris Jenkins, CB, North Alabama. The Titans lost cornerback Cortland Finnegan in free agency, so they take gamble on Jenkins because he has talent to be a Pro Bowl player.
21 Cincinnati Bengals: Dre Kirkpatrick*, CB, Alabama. After losing Johnathan Joseph in free agency a season ago they were thin a cornerback.  With Leon Hall recovering from achilles surgery, they are even more desperate to find a talented cornerback.
22 Cleveland Browns (From Atlanta): Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor. After drafting Ryan Tannehill with the fourth overall pick, the Browns draft Wright to give their new quarterback a big play weapon.
23 Detroit Lions: Luke Kuechly*, LB, Boston College. The Lions two best linebackers, Justin Durant and Stephen Tulloch, are solid, but not spectacular.  Kuechly would bring impact play making ability to their linebacking corps.
24 Pittsburgh Steelers: Alameda Ta’amu, NT, Washington. Long time starting nose tackle Casey Hampton is recovering for ACL surgery and is 34 years old, so Pittsburgh makes move to draft its nose tackle of the future.
25 Denver Broncos: Jerel Worthy*, DT, Michigan State. The Broncos want to improve the play making ability of their interior defensive line and Worthy would be the perfect player for Coach Fox to see if he can turn into a star.
26 Houston Texans: Amini Silatolu, OG, Midwestern State. Sources tell us that the Texans are more confident in Rashad Butler playing right tackle in 2012 than they are with Antoine Caldwell at guard, so they select Silatolu to handle that spot.
27 New England Patriots (From Saints): Stephon Gilmore*, CB, South Carolina. The Patriots make their first move to upgrade their defense by drafting Gilmore whose physical playing style and willingness to hit fit their schemes well.
28 Green Bay Packers: Devon Still, DT, Penn State. Green Bay’s defense did not play as well in 2011 as it did when it won the Super Bowl.  So the Packers draft Still whose strength and athleticism fit their 34 scheme.
29 Baltimore Ravens: Riley Reiff*, OT, Iowa. Michael Oher has not developed into a quality left tackle and looks to be the Ravens long term answer at right tackle.   The Ravens grab Reiff to try and solve their left tackle issue.
30 San Francisco 49ers: Mark Barron, SAF, Alabama. Sources tell us that the 49ers would prefer a guard, but if none is avilable they would like to get a young athletic safety to pair with Dashon Goldson.
31 New England Patriots: Courtney Upshaw, OLB, Alabama. Upshaw is not a top athlete, but he is strong, physical and was very productive playing in a similar defensive scheme at Alabama.
32 New York Giants: Doug Martin, RB, Boise State. With Brandon Jacobs now in San Francisco, the Giants need a strong, physical runner to pair with Ahmad Bradshaw and Martin would be a great fit.
